Blessing in Disguise

One fine sunny day, I was walking through the Vileparle market when I witnessed an incident. A fruit seller loaded with fresh fruits in the morning was sitting near the temple to sell them. Just then, his friend came by and he got busy talking to him. After a while, he sensed some movement near him and turned back to see. To his shock, the calf sitting near the temple had eaten all his grapes! The fruit seller was in tears, he didn’t know what to do. He could not even blame the calf. He argued a little with the cowherd but even the cowherd wasn’t around when this happened, so he knew it was not his fault. The fruit seller expressed remorse for this loss, and he began to cry over his loss.

In the meanwhile, a doctor who was also witnessing this incident came forward. He spoke a few words with the fruit seller to calm him down. He took out 2000 rupees from his pocket and offered him asking him to be aware the next time. The fruit seller was in tears again, this time tears of joy. More than the money, it was the humble gesture of humanity that touched his heart. He touched the doctor’s feet and thanked him.

In our lives, we keep blaming the world around us, our life, our fate, and God. But we really don’t know what’s in store for us! Just like the fruit seller. He never even thought somebody would come to his aid. Instead, if we believe that everything that is happening is only for my good, it will help us retain our smiles even in the toughest phases of life. All we need to do is see the ‘good’ in everything and believe that whatever happens; happens for the best!

This, I learnt from the fruit seller’s part of the story.

And from the doctor’s part- There were so many people around who witnessed this, some felt sorry for the person and moved on, some did not even bother but the doctor felt belongingness for the fruit seller. The doctor walked an extra mile and did something so selfless just to bring a smile on somebody’s face. Let all of us belong to atleast one new person today, just to make the person smile. Let’s experiment this and you can share with us how you felt doing so;
